- POST /api/nests with an existing id (active or deleted) now returns 409 with
the current record instead of a 500 from the UNIQUE constraint.
- Uploaded nest metadata must have string text fields and a defined status;
null fields and undefined statuses (e.g. 99) are 400 instead of a 500 or a
stored invalid value.
- --database <path> is accepted alongside --database=<path>; a missing or
repeated path fails startup instead of silently using OPENNEST_DB/default.

The v4 upgrade now keeps existing library data: each distinct package
blob is stored once by hash, every revision and current row is copied
with default nesting settings, and the v4 drawing tables are dropped,
all in the migration transaction. Pre-v4 databases get the v5 tables
directly.

Schema v5 stores each distinct drawing package once in drawing_packages,
keyed by SHA-256; revisions point at it, so details, settings, archive and
restore revisions add no blob. The v4 drawing tables are replaced outright
(no production library existed); nest tables are untouched.
Nesting settings (cut first, priority, rotation constraints, color) become
structured record fields (DrawingLibraryRecord.Settings), returned on every
read, filterable by cutFirst, editable through the metadata endpoint and
applied by LibraryDrawingInsert. Canonical packages now leave every
record-owned field at its default, so renaming or changing settings never
changes the package hash. Saving a nest drawing to the library carries its
settings into the record.
The desktop library browser gains a Cut first column and an Edit Settings
dialog that saves notes and settings as a new revision with the same package.

Operators can now save a nest drawing to the shared drawing library. Right-
click a drawing in the drawing list > Save to Drawing Library... opens a
dialog with name, customer, material (post materials suggested), grade,
thickness, cut type and notes, prefilled by the save model; units follow the
nest.
Whenever the details change, the dialog looks up library drawings with the
same details and offers Save as: the next revision of the match (the default
for one match or the linked drawing), a choice among several, or a separate
drawing. Save stays disabled until the lookup for the current details has
finished, so a choice can never apply to details it was not made for. A 409
is shown and the choices are refreshed; a save that could not be confirmed
tells the operator that saving again checks it and never stores it twice.
On success only the drawing's library link changes, and the chosen cut type
is remembered per PC. There is no nest dirty flag to set, so the operator
saves the nest to keep the new link. The item is Database mode only and is
shown only where the drawing list's host handles it (not the best-fit viewer).

Operators can now pull shared library drawings into a nest. Nest > Add from
Drawing Library... and a Library button above the drawing list open a paged
browser (name, customer, material, grade, thickness, cut type, revision, saved)
with a notes preview and a quantity. It starts filtered to the nest's material,
grade and thickness, with Show all to lift that.
Add downloads the listed revision's immutable package, not the current one, so
a revision saved meanwhile can never be what lands in the nest. The insert is
planned first and every warning or refusal is shown before the nest changes;
the dialog is modal, so the nest cannot move between plan and apply. The dialog
stays open for further adds and the drawing list refreshes on close.
Both entries are Database mode only: the library lives on the nest server, so
in File mode they are disabled with a "Database mode only" tooltip.

Proves Slice 1's contract through the production routes and the real client:
a code-built drawing is packaged, uploaded, found by cut type, material, grade
and thickness among decoys, downloaded and read back with identical program
text; a stale If-Match update raises a conflict and leaves the current
revision, its package hash and the history unchanged. Archive, restore,
metadata edits and duplicate ids are exercised the same way.
Documents the /api/drawings contract, schema v4 and the fact that the backup
manifest and restore check do not yet verify drawings.

Brings in the Plate menu reorganization, Database-mode drag-and-drop
open, the SavedNestsForm look fixes and the Irregular block-fill work
budget fix.
Conflicts:
- MainForm.Designer.cs: keep the branch's Plate menu order (Arrange
submenu, View in CAD last) and add master's Plan Cutting item ahead
of the lead-in commands.
- SavedNestsForm.cs: keep master's browser rewrite (details, preview,
columns) and apply the branch's intent to it: open maximized with
MaximizedBounds clear of the taskbar, the lighter grid palette on all
three grids, and B/KB/MB/GB file sizes.
Open browses server records in Database mode, with no way to load a local
file. Dragging .nest files onto the window (or an open plate) now opens
them from disk in either storage mode; PlateView forwards file drops via a
new FilesDropped event instead of swallowing them, gated on having a
listener so other PlateView hosts are unaffected. A dropped document is
unbound, so Save in Database mode creates a new record on first save via
the existing storage-mode logic.

The Details area of the Database-mode Open dialog now has a plate
preview beside the Plates/Drawings tabs, with a draggable divider. It
draws one plate of the highlighted nest; the arrow buttons below it step
through the plates ("Plate 2 of 5"), and choosing a row on the Plates tab
shows that plate, so the table and the preview stay on the same plate.
The preview is read-only (no selection or drop) and refits when resized.
NestDetails keeps the downloaded nest's plates (PlateLayouts) beside its
rows, so the preview draws the copy already read for the tables with no
second download.
Tests: NestDetails keeps every plate in nest order (fails with the
assignment removed). The Windows form test steps forward with the
button, checks the row follows, and selects a row back.
File > Open in Database mode now shows a resizable browser instead of
the small list dialog. The upper Nests grid keeps the server-side
search, sort and paging (row numbers count through the filtered list;
the title shows the server and the range). Below it, Details tabs list
the highlighted nest's plates and drawings, read from its archive after
the highlight rests for 250 ms; moving back to a nest already shown
reuses its result, and a missing archive is reported in the details
line.
Enter opens the highlighted nest (in the Find box it runs the search at
once instead) and Esc closes. Double-click opens a nest, and a context
menu offers Open, Delete (after confirmation) and Refresh. It only
browses saved nests; new nests are still created from the main window.
Windows tests drive the real form: page load, details for two nests,
Enter opening the highlighted one, the missing-archive message and Esc.
SQLite LIKE stops matching at an embedded NUL, so search=Alpha%00x
behaved like 'Alpha' followed by a wildcard and returned rows that do
not contain the whole search text. The shared query validation now
rejects NUL, so the server answers 400 and the client throws before
sending.
The Database-mode Open dialog no longer downloads every record. It
browses through NestBrowseSession, which sends one bounded query per
change: the filter box (300 ms debounce) searches on the server and
returns to the first page, column headers sort every match on the
server (a second click reverses), and Previous/Next page by 100 with a
range and total in the status line. A response superseded by a newer
request is cancelled and discarded, refresh steps back when the current
page was emptied, and failures clear the rows and show the error
without a modal box per keystroke.
The query accepts sort=<column>&order=asc|desc over a fixed allowlist
(saved, name, customer, status, material, dates, thickness, plate and
part counts, made by, comments, file size). Text columns sort with
NOCASE, ties break by id in the same direction so pages partition the
matches, and unknown or numeric sort values and other orders return 400.
The client sends the sort as its camelCase name.
GET /api/nests/query filters name, customer, material, made by, comments
and status (stored and display names) with an escaped LIKE parameter,
orders newest saved first with an id tie-break, and returns one page of
at most 500 records plus the total match count, read in one database
hold. Unknown, repeated or out-of-range parameters return 400.
RemoteNestRepository.QueryAsync validates the same bounds before
sending, rejects oversized pages, and reports a 404 from an older server
as a server that needs updating. GET /api/nests stays the full
enumeration used by backup, restore checks and the container smoke.
- Run as the .NET image's non-root app user (UID 1654) with root-owned
application files and an app-owned /app/data that fresh named volumes inherit.
- Add a curl HEALTHCHECK on /healthz (30s/5s/10s/3, 2s start interval), keep the
explicit 8090 URL and clear the base image's 8080 port default.
- Parameterize VERSION/SOURCE_REVISION and base images; add OCI labels with
development defaults.
- Add an image-only Compose example (required image and bind address, named
volume, cap_drop ALL, no-new-privileges) and an env template.
- Document deployment, the upload limit, scoped ownership preparation, and
checked backup/restore/upgrade functions that refuse existing destinations and
verify the metadata list and every archive hash before switching volumes.
- Extend the container smoke: image user/healthcheck/label contract, PID 1 UID,
capabilities and writable paths, Docker-reported health, near-limit and
oversized uploads, stopped-service backup restored into a second volume, and
startup failure on read-only and root-owned data mounts.
SQLite-backed (Microsoft.Data.Sqlite, WAL) minimal API storing NestRecord
metadata plus the .nest archive as a BLOB. Endpoints: GET/POST /api/nests,
GET /api/nests/{id}[/file], PUT /api/nests/{id}/file, PUT
/api/nests/{id}/metadata, DELETE /api/nests/{id}, GET /healthz. Multipart
upload contract matches RemoteNestRepository (metadata JSON part + file
part). Added to OpenNest.sln, builds standalone on Linux. Dockerfile
publishes to a runtime image listening on :8090 with a /app/data volume
for the SQLite file. docs/nest-storage.md documents the wire contract,
endpoints and deployment.
Full curl round trip verified manually against a running instance:
upload (server-assigned id + computed fileSize), list, get, byte-exact
file download, metadata-only update (archive unchanged), file update
(new archive persisted), 404s for unknown ids, delete, post-delete 404.
